History
The first stand-up style JET SKI® personal watercraft was released in 1972 by the Japanese company Kawasaki, which had previously focused on motorcycles and other land-based heavy machinery. Inventor Clayton Jacobson II had created the first personal watercraft prototypes in the 1960s, which eventually became the JET SKI® in 1970 after Jacobson’s agreement with another manufacturer ended and he was allowed to develop further stand-up models.
In 1973, JET SKI® PWCs entered the US market and became immensely popular with their powerful two-stroke engine and a flat hull design that allowed them to coast through the water with ease. Fans of powersports were intrigued by these machines and sales went through the roof in the 1980s and 1990s. Kawasaki has continued to innovate and expand on their original designs, providing customers with consistently high-quality watercraft that performs well and remains stable in the water.
Features
When you want the classic stand-up JET SKI® experience, look no further than the latest SX-R models, which contain four-stroke engines that maximize the power output and feature responsive controls that allow you to feel like you’re in charge. The three-bladed stainless steel impeller and high-efficiency jet pump contribute to the ride’s acceleration, while the lightweight V-shaped hull adds to the watercraft’s agility.
For a great sit-down ride, look into the Ultra 310R model, which seats up to three passengers on special grip material to keep you balanced. These JET SKI® models have a four-stroke supercharged and intercooled engine for maximum performance. The adjustable handlebar can be moved into eighteen different positions using clamps, allowing you flexibility in how you ride. The Smart Learning Operation (SLO) mode lowers the engine speed to help novice riders become comfortable on their new watercraft.
